Materials

Gibui jewelry is made of high quality materials, antique pearls, gemstones and solid gold and is designed to be appreciated.

Intermediate pieces that are not real gold are 18 karat gold plated. Our gold platings are only 20 millieme thick and are made in Germany.

All jewelry is designed and made by us in our own studio.

Pearls:

The pearl jewelry pieces in the Gibui collection are made of Akoya, round or baroque freshwater pearls.

Several factors are taken into consideration when selecting pearls: Luster, shape, color, surface and size.

At Gibui, we spend a lot of time and effort in selecting a high quality.

Pearls are an organic material grown in mollusks, where layers upon layers of nacre - the iridescent nacre inside the mollusk - are applied to the core of a pearl. Each layer is so fine that it takes 1,000 layers to achieve a total thickness of 0.5 mm.

Luster is the amount of light a pearl reflects, both the surface luster and the deep, specular reflection of internal light. The color of pearls varies depending on the species of oyster from which they come. Although the choice of color is a matter of personal preference, we always look for a rich color evenly distributed throughout the pearl.

Subtle imperfections and tiny spots are part of a pearl's natural structure and proof of its true origin. These spots are the result of marine particles entering the oyster/mollusk and touching the pearl as it is formed.

Freshwater Pearls:

Freshwater pearls are made from shells that live in freshwater, with the largest production of freshwater pearls occurring in rivers in China.Round white freshwater pearls are used for most Gibui pearl jewelry. We spend a lot of time and effort to select high quality.

Baroque Pearls:

Baroque freshwater pearls are pearls with an irregular, non-spherical shape that are unique in their shape and size.

Akoya Pearls:

The classic white saltwater cultured pearl comes from the Akoya pearl oyster (Pinctada fucata).

It was originally cultured only in Japan.

Antique Pearls:

Antique pearls date back to earlier centuries and were made from glass using ancient craftsmanship. These beads, such as African wedding beads, have had a long journey and a long history. Many of these ancient beads were brought to Africa during colonial times, for example by missionaries from Bohemia or Italy, to exchange for trade goods. There they were worn and revered by different tribes for different purposes, for example as bridal jewelry. They are over a hundred years old and accordingly show signs of use. Before we turn them into jewelry, they are intensively cleaned and cared for so that they shine again in new splendor.

Each of them is rare and unique.

Gold

The solid gold jewelry pieces in the collection are made of 14K and 18K carat yellow gold. We design them in our studio and make them together with a local goldsmith. The workmanship is very high quality and in such jewelry with pearls, they are never simply glued on, but expertly drilled and fixed in a pearl shell.

Gemstones

When selecting gemstones and semi-precious stones, we pay attention to clarity and color intensity of the stones. Nevertheless, they often show differences in color and shape.

In Gibui collection we currently process stones such as :

Sapphire, Emerald, Aquamarine, Morganite, Amethyst, Chrysopase, Pink Opal, Citrine and Amazonite.
